I have had this television for about a week now. So far, I am thrilled. The picture is fantastic - I feel like I can reach right in and touch the people on the HD channels. I am not an ultra-techie, but it more than serves my purposes. My husband took about 15 minutes to get it set up from opening the box (delivered very quickly, btw) until we were watching. At first I thought the sound was a bit off, but after tinkering with the settings and getting to the simulated surround sound, I now think it's great. I know some people say you should have higher than 60hz with a TV this size and maybe they're right, but after a weekend of watching regular programming and football I don't think I could be any happier with the picture.

I have tried all of the possible aspect ratios and the problem is still there. I have not made a big deal out of it because I do not want my daughter to become dissatisfied. I am sure this TV would be more than I expected in every way. When I discovered I had to screw the stand into a tabletop or stand in order for the TV not to fall over that was unacceptable to me. I use a large antique bureau to put my TV's on and to wreak the beautiful solid walnut surface by inserting a screw was unthinkable. I wish I knew beforehand since it costed me $[...] to send it back. My daughter and I tried to think of other ways to secure the stand but it would have looked terrible.

Got this TV after several months of research and in person comparisons... I bought if for $1,000.



PROS:

*Feature to price ratio is above most other brands

*Very nice picture of course, huge array of color modifications

*120Hz really makes a difference on the way moving images look (alltough I've compared several 120hz TV's never seen any other TV that looks like this, makes everything look like a 3D soap opera, it's tough to describe, you need to experience it! even my family members have pointed this out)

*Customizable 120Hz menu

*Good looking TV, I would say Samsungs are the best looking TV's on the market

*Touch sensitive buttons (like the LG chocolate phone) always get complements with everyone when they first see them

*Swivel base (haven't used it, but still a nice feature not found on all TV's)

*Hidden speakers (unlike some sony models that have them on a bottom bar)

*Picture in picture (only works when the two sources you are trying to view are HD sources)

*Remote control has a piano black finish and is backlit

*The LCd screen has the mate finish (helps in reducing light reflection)

*Media play over the 2 USB ports (view pics. watch videos, play music)



Cons:

*Sound, allthough it is loud it's not that good... but then again, you can't ask much from two small and hidden speakers. Get a home theatre system

*The TV bezel allthough its pretty nice looking it also is a dust magnet and can be easily scratched if you are not careful, this goes for the remote control as well.

*The touch sensitive buttons would have been perfect if they would lit, can't see them at night and of course you can't feel them either. You can also turn on/off the TV by accident whenever you are cleaning it.

*Does not support regular Wi-Fi connectivity for the RSS news feeds, need to buy the samsung USB dongle.



This is all I can think of for the moment.

All in all it's a pretty good TV and offers pretty good bang for your buck.

I bought this TV (actually the LN46B640) because of the reputation, and it did not fail me! Picture is fantastic with HDMI and component, sound is awesome. The only thing I don't like is that mine did not have the optical input, only an optical out. Doesn't make sense to me, but if you use HDMI it doesn't make a difference. I would recommend this television to anyone who can afford it!

Did over 3 months research on TV, finally decided to go with this one. I was looking at Bestbuy, Sears and couple other places, at the end, I decided to get it from Amazon. Well, I have been buying things from Amazon from time to time, but never this big. I was a bit worry at first coz I use the free shipping as usual, just to save some money.... :P Well, it turns out pretty good. The delivery service was good. They call me 10 mins before they arrive. As for the TV, no complain so far... It works right out of the box. Didn't even have to read the manual. I set it up in just few minutes. Nice image quality, so far I only use 120Hz when I watch football. will get some movie later to test it out more... Overall, good quality TV, well built. will certainly recommend..

I bought this for my husband as a gift and he loves it. We've had no problems with resolution or anything else. We've tried it as a television, computer monitor and to use to play XBOX 360. It offers outstanding performance in all areas. The only complaint-which is probably more user preference than a performance issue- is that when playing some games on XBOX Live (specifically for war/shooting games), this monitor is still too small to see all the players clearly. My situation was this. I moved into a new apartment with a small living room and didnt have room for both a desk and tv stand so I decided to combine the two and get a hd tv that could be used as a computer monitor and MAN OH MAN was I blown away. My 6 year old dell desktop connected up fine to it and displayed even better than hd resolution (hd is 1900x1080, computer does 1900x1200) and then when I press one button it automatically switches to my cable input and I got my hd tv I can watch and the picture on it is sweet. This will be the nicest monitor you would find for the price and also the nicest tv for the price and this does both. The sound is pretty good as long as its not in a huge room. Ive never thought for one second it was weak but you can always hook up speakers if you want to. Great buy!

My Samsung Synchmaster T240HD LCD/HDTV has (Bought from Amazon.com) volume problems: There sometimes is NO volume from any of the broadcast (over the air) stations & usually none from the computer audio output amplifier. The touch of power (ON-OFF) switch works poorly: The remote is the only way you can reliably turn the power to this device on & off. The "Fixed" height stand is also a pain. I won't buy another product from Amazon or from Samsung-especially those made in China. The manufacturers warranty

leaves a lot to be desired.

Nice remote with good features; easy to use. Our set had a glitch when it arrived: A couple of channels had no video until the set warmed up for some time. Quick contact with the Toshiba help desk (toll-free telephone) determined that our model version required a firmware upgrade. They immediately mailed a flash drive with the "fix" and it was received in four days and easily installed in a jiffy. Though we've only had ours for about a week, if it holds up at present quality, we'll be very glad of our choice.

I searched for days for a replacement TV for my RV. The picture quality is AMAZING! Especially when watching Blu Rays. I now truly enjoy watching movies at home. The sound was much much better than I thought it would be after reading others reviews. However, I did buy a Bose computer speaker system to enhance my movie watching enjoyment. This is my bedroom tv so I didn't see a need for a whole surround sound setup. It does take a few seconds to power up but I don't get anxious for it. Other people make it sound like they are missing the first 5 minutes of a show or something. It is literally like a 5 second wait but worth it for energy saving. I hate how long it takes to change the channel on any TV these days but I have a TIVO so I don't have to be annoyed by that feature. Everyone who comes over comments on how much they like my tv. Some have went and bought one after seeing how nice this one is. I did a lot of research before deciding and am very happy with my decision.

This is my first Sony TV. I've only owned it for a few hours. I hope my opinion doesn't change.



I bought a PS3 Slim at the same time. I connected them and watched "Up" on DVD. The picture quality is nothing short of incredible. I don't know if it's the PS3, the quality of the DVD, the TV or all of the above. But, I've never seen a picture that I've been that impressed with.



I read a few reviews here complaining of the inputs on the side and the picture brightness changing. I didn't notice the picture changing brightness. It could be I have a firmware version that includes the fix for it. I'm not sure. The inputs are a little unorthodox. I have a regular HDMI cable and RCA cable plugged into the side. I don't see them from the front. So, I guess they aren't in the way. But, I would have preferred them on the back.



I recommend this TV.

WOW!! I think that every time I turn on my new 52XBR9. The colors are absolutely astounding. I've researched HDTV for several years and waited till the price on this model came down to my acceptable price range. I didn't want to settle for something less than top quality (I just retired a Sony WEGA XBR, so I'm a bit spoiled). There's no need for me to repeat all the technical attributes mentioned in other reviews. This is simply as good as a TV can get.

From what I have noticed with other LCDs is the picture looks too defined. It ultimately makes non-HD content look fake. This TV does not do that, however adjustments are necessary. I have owned another Bravia from the previous a generation and it is awesome. The sound from the TV is better than average and really a great quality sound, but get a 5:1 or better sound system for your movies. I also own a Aquos which is equally comparable to the Bravia, but the Aquos is from the 1st generation of LCD TV.



So if you don't want to plunge into LED just yet; I suggest the XBR Bravia line. There's great features in this model for connecting to on-line content, however no web browser. There's several widgets and plenty of internet feeds to wet your whistle (i.e. U-Tube...). Definitely get it if you want some internet TV... it's not blazing fast but you can still receive regular broadcasts during widget operation, incredible! But no web browser, new feeds and widgets are created and occasionally there are connection issues with widgets (it was really bad when I first got the TV but it is much better now).

I upgraded from a 42" TV. WOW what a difference. I was worried it would be too big. however after having the TV for a few months now I can say it's a perfect size. Delivery was simple and easy. They called a few days out and gave me a few options of delivery days/times. They took the TV out of the box and set it up on the stand for me. Normally they would test it, but since it was cold out i signed a waiver that they did not test the TV and that if I had any issues once the TV warmed up they would come back and return the TV. Luckily there were no issues at all.



The internet widgets are really useful. I like that I can stream netflix to my TV and do not have to use my xbox to do this. The interface is simple and easy for netflix/ streaming video. I have a cable box , but was interested in the built in tuner/ TV guide function. It took about 15 minutes or so to scan all my channels. I picked a good amount of HD channels(QAM). The tv guide interface is slick and makes navigating the channels like having a cable box. Very cool feature. Picture quality via built in tuner is better than my Scientific Atlantic cable box over hdmi (I blame my cable box on this)



I do not use built in sound but tried it out for a bit. The built in sound sounds good for what it is, but if you are going to spend this kind of money on an HDTV you might as well pickup a surround sound setup. It was simple to shut off the built in speakers and only use the digital from TV to send to my receiver.



The picture quality on this TV is amazing. Bluray looks amazing. THe opening scene in the dark knight filmed in IMAX at full 16:9 is jaw dropping! The depth and clarity/color is stunning. Motion blur is reduced vs my previous 42" tv. There are a few clear frame/stabilization modes. Standard is the best option in my opinion. If you have it set to high it changes the intent of what a director wants you to watch the movie. For sports / reality shows I can stand the high mode, but for movies I had to switch it off.



There are different scene presets which are great! You can tweak the settings for each type of viewing mode. IE sports, gaming, movies, pc connection, etc etc. This is very useful. My TV is in a bright room (reason i got this over the sammy with a glossy screen) and during the day it's nice to have the presets for different lighting conditions/viewing content etc etc. I use the sports mode for my daytime viewing (back light / color all the way up) During the evening for TV content I use the general setting and tweaked the back light/color to be better for low light viewing. For movie watching (all lights off) I have the "theater" mode tweaked / tuned via THX optimizer (Terminator 2 bluray). TV came really close to THX spec only a few settings needed to be tweaked.



Overall I really am satisfied with this purchase/experience from amazon.

The TV was very good.I opted for the bundle - TV + home theater for $1999



While mounting it on a swivel stand I noticed that out of the 4 bolt holes (on the back side of set) one hole is missing its thread. It is not the screw.bolt. I had M6 screws. Amazon couldn't provide me a replacement because they ran out of stock. I checked with Sony who suggests that the best bet would be to return to Amazon. Now that Thanks Giving sale is over, I can't get that kind of TV at that price. I am stuck with a big TV stand which I bought just to house that TV.

This is my second Sony XBR purchase. This tv rocks! I own an older and smaller XBR2 40 that is amazing and problem free. The XBR9 is also half as thick as the XBR2. I cant say enough good about this tv!

I cant wait for the XBR10 to come out and the price to come down. Rumor has it that the 10 is only 30mm thick and 8lbs lighter.

I will for sure buy again!
