 "Strange ghosting problem" 2010-02-14
By Ari (FL)
I work in the AV industry and tried to assist my dad in purchasing a TV. When we found out my first TV choice was delayed for an unknown amount of time he didn't want to wait and got this B6000 (instead of the 8000) on Amazon. Here are some issues I've seen with the TV.

1. Motion blur

I've noticed ridiculous motion blur or ghosting with this TV. I was quite appalled by it. I've adjusted settings fruitlessly (there isn't that much to adjust) to no avail. This is all coming in on the satellite feed and while it is a 120hz TV I noticed the incoming signal always says 1920x1080 60hz. I can't get it to change from there. In the end it may just be the satellite box (Dish DVR). Perhaps someone else can confirm this in the comments.

2. LED Edge-lit

I would stay away from edge-lit TVs for now. If you're wall mounting and you MUST have an ultra thin TV then go for it. But if you want excellent screen uniformity then you'll want to avoid it.

3. Controls

The amount of picture adjustment controls seems very limited.

4. GLOSSY SCREEN!

I don't know why manufacturers are making TV's with glossy screen. I can only guess that it costs significantly less to make than a matte screen. You can see every bit of light reflecting in this screen. If you like to have a light on while you're watching TV, make sure the light is right above/behind the TV or it's behind you and you're sitting off to the side. Otherwise you'll be plenty annoyed on any dark/semi-dark scene. On the bright scenes you don't really notice it.

On a more positive note:

Through Blu-Ray it looks very amazing. In fact, perhaps too good. Several movies I've watched on Blu-Ray actually are so crisp and sharp that it looks like a movie set instead of a real life scene. That ruins it a tiny bit for me. The best example would be Dark Knight.

The motion blur has made me think poorly of this TV. I do hope it's just something to do with Dish's DVR box. But if it only does 60hz on all boxes, why bother? My brother has a slightly older model Samsung 120hz 52" that looks great over Brighthouse. Again, if anyone has Dish w/ this TV please put a comment on whether there is motion blur for you.

"Beautiful picture, good sound, fragile optical digital audio output port" 2010-02-09
By JR Bib (SC, USA)
I read some of the reviews and concerns with this TV, because at this moment, I've only had it for two weeks, and I'm still within the 30-day return period.

I have not yet been able detect the light cones coming from the edges while watching the TV in a dark room. The stunning picture seems to me equally impressive regardless of the level of light in the room. I appreciate the review from the customer who posted his information and recommended to buy the LCD instead of the LED, but I simply have not been able detect the problem that made him return the TV. I also respect but disagree with the person who made the remarks about the bad quality of sound, and recommended not buying the sound bar. I got my TV at Best Buy and the deal I found included the sound bar with the wireless sub-woofer for free.

The TV speakers sound to me just fine, nice volume without distortion, and in combination with the sound bar the sound is as good as it gets without a full-featured high-end home theater system.

My only bad experience with this TV happened while connecting the sound bar to the TV using the supplied optical cable. The supplied cable was so short that it barely allowed the connection, and forced it to fold sharply, because the audio port on the sound bar is on the end most distant from where it is on the TV (clearly a design mismatch from Samsung). But the real problem came when sliding the optical jack into the fragile port behind the TV. Even though I was careful, I could hear a snap, and noticed that the tiny door in the optical receptacle broke off. I suspect that it may have been broken from the start, but perhaps it broke while I was making the connection. The result was a faulty connection that caused the sound bar's volume to go up and down. I had to use tape to keep the optical cable aligned in place, because the broken receptacle would not hold the optical jack firmly in place. For this reason, I brought back the TV to the store and got a replacement. This time I bought a longer optical cable and made the connection with even more care, very very slowly. I heard a click, and this time nothing was broken and the cable stayed in place. I'm now enjoying my TV with no sound problems. The sound bar not only greatly enhances the TV's sound, but also looks great, as it matches the TV's classy Touch of Color edge look. The wireless sub-woofer is not very powerful (although it is quite large and heavy) but it does help to provide a sense of bass and surround sound, as I placed it on the opposite corner of the room from the TV. It automatically connects without wires every time the sound bar is turned on.

I think that this TV along with its sound bar and sub-woofer will be a keeper. The positive by far outweighs the negative. I definitely recommend it, just be extremely careful when connecting that optical cable.

 "Samsung 46 LED TV" 2010-02-06
By Chris (S Dak)
After month of use am quite well satisfied with the picture quality. Prices seem to be coming down on this technology. Am mostly satisfied with Amazon except for the fact 12 hours later they send a sale on the unit with free wall mount that would give most people a bad taste. Am supposed to understand how this company works, o well!!!!!!!!!

"LOVE IT! Believe the hype" 2010-02-02
By S. Sharon
This TV is just plain sexy. The thin profile is a huge selling point when you're talking first impressions, but the vivid colors, amazing screen brightness, and razor sharp picture are the real stars here. All visual aspects of this TV are just indescribable.

The only con I can think of is the auto-dimming feature. When the screen is mostly dark objects and contrast, the overall brightness of the screen decreases to give you the illusion of deeper blacks. Normally it works like a charm, but it can be a bit of a nuisance when you're in the middle of a dark scene in a video game, trying to find something.

I checked around, and this seems to be a common annoyance. I've heard rumors that Samsung might release a software update which would include the option to turn this feature off in the OSD menu. I am all for this!

The AutoMotion Plus feature has 4 settings: Clear(low), Standard(medium), Smooth(high), and Off. I keep it on "Clear". This seems to get rid of any blurring, yet avoid making the picture look fake. Most movies and TV shows are filmed at 24fps (frames per second). If you speed that up to faster than it was originally shot, it starts to look artificial. This annoys me. The only times I turn on the "smooth" setting are during Live Sports and Nature Shows (ie. Planet Earth on Blu-Ray!). Those types of shows are shot at 30fps, which matches up better with the 120Hz refresh rate known as "Smooth".

Hope this helps!

But just to reiterate.... THIS TV IS AMAZING!

Oh, and to those of you complaining about the sound quality of the built-in speakers... The TV is 1" thick! Just what do you realistically expect? That's like complaining about the sound quality of the speakers in your cellphone. Seriously.... if you're going to invest this much in a TV, pony up and get a 5.1 system. Even a cheap one.

I was a bit hesitant on buying a tv from amazon and having it shipped. After having done it I would definitely do it again. The TV itself is a great product and I definitely saved a lot of money buying it from amazon. When I was doing the research about CEVA, the shipping company, I got a lot of mixed reviews of good and bad. My experience with them was great. It came a day later than the estimate, but they did a great job on the day of delivery by calling ahead. I work about 30 minutes away from my house and they gave me a 1 hour call out prior to delivery and I met them at the house. They even opened it up and powered it up so I could inspect it. Needless to say I tipped the delivery drivers. I would definitely recommend this product and shipping company/Amazon to everyone.

The tv looks nice and has many features. Wish it had svideo for some of my older components. However, the sound has little to be desired. I know they try to remove the old school speakers in the front look and thats ok. But, for 1400 dollars please put a little more quality into the sound. Sounds like the tv is in a tin can. Yes alot of people have surround sound etc. I don't want to listen to regular tv in surround sound. My 37 inch samsung has better sound quality than this 52" Over all the picture is very nice and you can't tell that much difference between the LED and LCD for the price. Happy shopping

You can't go wrong with this TV, which we have in our family room. Its picture with HDMI connection is razor sharp on HDTV channels and well above average for standard definition. Hookup is a snap and the audio is better-than-average through the under-mount speakers, though our Samsung is fed through an AudioSource amplifier to Bose bookshelf speakers and a Dayton audio 8-inch subwoofer. There are plenty of adjustments for picture and sound so you can get flesh tones just right and set up the 120 hz motion to your liking. Delivery from Amazon was as promised and seamless.

"Very Pleased with my decision" 2010-01-30
By R. Young (Charleston, SC)
As someone who took a lot of time out to review different product specifications and find a TV that could be used in various rooms, and have a long lifespan, I am very happy with my decision. I waited until Black Friday to buy this TV, and certainly did not disappoint for only $800. I am a former employee for a large electronics retailer, and I can tell you that it is well known that Samsung is top-dog when it comes to LCD televisions. At this point I have owned the television for just over 9 weeks.

This TV really fits all of the needs of anyone looking for a high quality TV that will do everything you could want a TV to do. The 120 Hz screen refresh rate is more than enough when it comes to LCD technology. The human eye cannot perceive a difference beyond this point, so if you are looking for a quality TV that you are not overpaying for, 120 Hz is the way to go. I've watched numerous sporting events on this TV over the past few months, and I have not been disappointed in the slightest about its performance.

The 80,000:1 contrast ratio creates a vibrant and colorful environment on the screen. I watched Planet Earth in HD recently, and absolutely loved the level of detail this TV was able to bring to the screen. Its not a top-end HDTV, nor is it an LED TV, but it certainly does the job for me. I take the performance of my TV seriously, as I know what to look for having worked around them, and this TV has not disappointed me.

The speakers are not the best on this TV, but flat screen televisions were designed to be compact, and speakers were the obvious choice to lower the quality/ability in order to achieve that goal. With that said, I would always recommend purchasing a surround sound system with the purchase of a flat screen TV. Having a great screen is only half of the battle. If the sound does not match up with the television, you won't find yourself in the story taking place on the screen. (This is why theaters have good sound systems & big screens.) Get yourself a quality sound system with an HDTV and you will find yourself immersed in the story.

This product has plenty of inputs and outputs. Currently I have an Xbox (component HD), N64 (coax port), Srround Sound (audio out), Cable (HDMI), and computer input (HDMI). If you have a lap top with either TV shows, movies, or a DVD player, you can plug that computer into this TV and use the TV as a monitor or to view your media. I regularly watch TV shows from the internet player on my TV through my computer. The HMDI cable carries video and audio, so the entire system works with just one plug.

All in all, I have found this to be a high-quality product. The TV also hooks up to the internet, though because this is a new technology, I expect that software updates will be in the future to upgrade this unit to stream Netflix movies and other online services. Its an inevitable next step in TV development. If you're looking for a cheaper, very high quality TV, look no further. Samsung is LCD's top dog, and no one will be knocking them off for a while.

We are very pleased with our new flat screen TV. We have not had any problems with it and the picture is very clear with still and action scenes. The only thing I could improve is an on/off switch on the TV itself, for when the remote is not handy. There is even a three dimensional aspect that enhances the picture. We are glad that we purchased this model and saved money through Amazon.com

"Very nice for the price" 2009-12-23
By Raul E. Magdaleno Gonzalez (El Paso, TX)
Got this TV after several months of research and in person comparisons... I bought if for $1,000.

PROS:

*Feature to price ratio is above most other brands

*Very nice picture of course, huge array of color modifications

*120Hz really makes a difference on the way moving images look (alltough I've compared several 120hz TV's never seen any other TV that looks like this, makes everything look like a 3D soap opera, it's tough to describe, you need to experience it! even my family members have pointed this out)

*Customizable 120Hz menu

*Good looking TV, I would say Samsungs are the best looking TV's on the market

*Touch sensitive buttons (like the LG chocolate phone) always get complements with everyone when they first see them

*Swivel base (haven't used it, but still a nice feature not found on all TV's)

*Hidden speakers (unlike some sony models that have them on a bottom bar)

*Picture in picture (only works when the two sources you are trying to view are HD sources)

*Remote control has a piano black finish and is backlit

*The LCd screen has the mate finish (helps in reducing light reflection)

*Media play over the 2 USB ports (view pics. watch videos, play music)

Cons:

*Sound, allthough it is loud it's not that good... but then again, you can't ask much from two small and hidden speakers. Get a home theatre system

*The TV bezel allthough its pretty nice looking it also is a dust magnet and can be easily scratched if you are not careful, this goes for the remote control as well.

*The touch sensitive buttons would have been perfect if they would lit, can't see them at night and of course you can't feel them either. You can also turn on/off the TV by accident whenever you are cleaning it.

*Does not support regular Wi-Fi connectivity for the RSS news feeds, need to buy the samsung USB dongle.

This is all I can think of for the moment.

All in all it's a pretty good TV and offers pretty good bang for your buck.

I bought this TV (actually the LN46B640) because of the reputation, and it did not fail me! Picture is fantastic with HDMI and component, sound is awesome. The only thing I don't like is that mine did not have the optical input, only an optical out. Doesn't make sense to me, but if you use HDMI it doesn't make a difference. I would recommend this television to anyone who can afford it!

Did over 3 months research on TV, finally decided to go with this one. I was looking at Bestbuy, Sears and couple other places, at the end, I decided to get it from Amazon. Well, I have been buying things from Amazon from time to time, but never this big. I was a bit worry at first coz I use the free shipping as usual, just to save some money.... :P Well, it turns out pretty good. The delivery service was good. They call me 10 mins before they arrive. Nice...

As for the TV, no complain so far... It works right out of the box. Didn't even have to read the manual. I set it up in just few minutes. Nice image quality, so far I only use 120Hz when I watch football. will get some movie later to test it out more... Overall, good quality TV, well built. will certainly recommend..
