 "Strange ghosting problem" 2010-02-14
By Ari (FL)
I work in the AV industry and tried to assist my dad in purchasing a TV. When we found out my first TV choice was delayed for an unknown amount of time he didn't want to wait and got this B6000 (instead of the 8000) on Amazon. Here are some issues I've seen with the TV.

1. Motion blur

I've noticed ridiculous motion blur or ghosting with this TV. I was quite appalled by it. I've adjusted settings fruitlessly (there isn't that much to adjust) to no avail. This is all coming in on the satellite feed and while it is a 120hz TV I noticed the incoming signal always says 1920x1080 60hz. I can't get it to change from there. In the end it may just be the satellite box (Dish DVR). Perhaps someone else can confirm this in the comments.

2. LED Edge-lit

I would stay away from edge-lit TVs for now. If you're wall mounting and you MUST have an ultra thin TV then go for it. But if you want excellent screen uniformity then you'll want to avoid it.

3. Controls

The amount of picture adjustment controls seems very limited.

4. GLOSSY SCREEN!

I don't know why manufacturers are making TV's with glossy screen. I can only guess that it costs significantly less to make than a matte screen. You can see every bit of light reflecting in this screen. If you like to have a light on while you're watching TV, make sure the light is right above/behind the TV or it's behind you and you're sitting off to the side. Otherwise you'll be plenty annoyed on any dark/semi-dark scene. On the bright scenes you don't really notice it.

On a more positive note:

Through Blu-Ray it looks very amazing. In fact, perhaps too good. Several movies I've watched on Blu-Ray actually are so crisp and sharp that it looks like a movie set instead of a real life scene. That ruins it a tiny bit for me. The best example would be Dark Knight.

The motion blur has made me think poorly of this TV. I do hope it's just something to do with Dish's DVR box. But if it only does 60hz on all boxes, why bother? My brother has a slightly older model Samsung 120hz 52" that looks great over Brighthouse. Again, if anyone has Dish w/ this TV please put a comment on whether there is motion blur for you.

"Beautiful picture, good sound, fragile optical digital audio output port" 2010-02-09
By JR Bib (SC, USA)
I read some of the reviews and concerns with this TV, because at this moment, I've only had it for two weeks, and I'm still within the 30-day return period.

I have not yet been able detect the light cones coming from the edges while watching the TV in a dark room. The stunning picture seems to me equally impressive regardless of the level of light in the room. I appreciate the review from the customer who posted his information and recommended to buy the LCD instead of the LED, but I simply have not been able detect the problem that made him return the TV. I also respect but disagree with the person who made the remarks about the bad quality of sound, and recommended not buying the sound bar. I got my TV at Best Buy and the deal I found included the sound bar with the wireless sub-woofer for free.

The TV speakers sound to me just fine, nice volume without distortion, and in combination with the sound bar the sound is as good as it gets without a full-featured high-end home theater system.

My only bad experience with this TV happened while connecting the sound bar to the TV using the supplied optical cable. The supplied cable was so short that it barely allowed the connection, and forced it to fold sharply, because the audio port on the sound bar is on the end most distant from where it is on the TV (clearly a design mismatch from Samsung). But the real problem came when sliding the optical jack into the fragile port behind the TV. Even though I was careful, I could hear a snap, and noticed that the tiny door in the optical receptacle broke off. I suspect that it may have been broken from the start, but perhaps it broke while I was making the connection. The result was a faulty connection that caused the sound bar's volume to go up and down. I had to use tape to keep the optical cable aligned in place, because the broken receptacle would not hold the optical jack firmly in place. For this reason, I brought back the TV to the store and got a replacement. This time I bought a longer optical cable and made the connection with even more care, very very slowly. I heard a click, and this time nothing was broken and the cable stayed in place. I'm now enjoying my TV with no sound problems. The sound bar not only greatly enhances the TV's sound, but also looks great, as it matches the TV's classy Touch of Color edge look. The wireless sub-woofer is not very powerful (although it is quite large and heavy) but it does help to provide a sense of bass and surround sound, as I placed it on the opposite corner of the room from the TV. It automatically connects without wires every time the sound bar is turned on.

I think that this TV along with its sound bar and sub-woofer will be a keeper. The positive by far outweighs the negative. I definitely recommend it, just be extremely careful when connecting that optical cable.

After month of use am quite well satisfied with the picture quality. Prices seem to be coming down on this technology. Am mostly satisfied with Amazon except for the fact 12 hours later they send a sale on the unit with free wall mount that would give most people a bad taste. Am supposed to understand how this company works, o well!!!!!!!!!

"LOVE IT! Believe the hype" 2010-02-02
By S. Sharon
This TV is just plain sexy. The thin profile is a huge selling point when you're talking first impressions, but the vivid colors, amazing screen brightness, and razor sharp picture are the real stars here. All visual aspects of this TV are just indescribable.

The only con I can think of is the auto-dimming feature. When the screen is mostly dark objects and contrast, the overall brightness of the screen decreases to give you the illusion of deeper blacks. Normally it works like a charm, but it can be a bit of a nuisance when you're in the middle of a dark scene in a video game, trying to find something.

I checked around, and this seems to be a common annoyance. I've heard rumors that Samsung might release a software update which would include the option to turn this feature off in the OSD menu. I am all for this!

The AutoMotion Plus feature has 4 settings: Clear(low), Standard(medium), Smooth(high), and Off. I keep it on "Clear". This seems to get rid of any blurring, yet avoid making the picture look fake. Most movies and TV shows are filmed at 24fps (frames per second). If you speed that up to faster than it was originally shot, it starts to look artificial. This annoys me. The only times I turn on the "smooth" setting are during Live Sports and Nature Shows (ie. Planet Earth on Blu-Ray!). Those types of shows are shot at 30fps, which matches up better with the 120Hz refresh rate known as "Smooth".

Hope this helps!

But just to reiterate.... THIS TV IS AMAZING!

Oh, and to those of you complaining about the sound quality of the built-in speakers... The TV is 1" thick! Just what do you realistically expect? That's like complaining about the sound quality of the speakers in your cellphone. Seriously.... if you're going to invest this much in a TV, pony up and get a 5.1 system. Even a cheap one.

"My first hdtv; looks like a keeper." 2010-02-20
By elkay (Selma, OR USA)
Had to replace a fifteen year old RCA 31" crt set. Analyzed these things to death. Flat screens are now the only way you can go, forcing most to higher cable/sat charges for HD content. I don't have HD (Dish) yet, so the full capabilities of this Samsung are yet to be proven. Standard def material is catch as catch can; some is just fine, some is purty awful...but truth be told, that is more'n likely the fault of the program source (pink faces, crappy looking graphics and the like.) A couple of cons in MHO; touch of color seems to be a waste of ad space. What is needed?? Put a table lamp behind the set to be able to enjoy the burgundy-wine colored ring? What, already. Next...those touch-sensitive controls in front of the set. To use them, one has to go fetch a flashlight. Useless, unless engineering would have back-lighted the little suckers. Lastly, that annoying "muted" icon that floats around the screen. Get rid of it, or at least just flash the muted indicator momentarily; no sound?? Press a volume button and the question is answered. As for all the negative reviews about Samsung support and service; I bought from a local big-box store and ponied up for their three year coverage. Takes the factory run-around out of the loop. Hope to never have to use it, but if ever needed, the policy will handle all the footwork. That's why one buys insurance, huh? So far (three weeks and counting) this set is working out fine. Now, let's see, where did I see that really good blu-ray disk player??

We bought this TV and it broke down about 14 months later, just after the warranty was up. And to fix it would've cost almost as much as the TV itself. The people at Samsung were very unhelpful and occasionally rude as we pleaded our case. An internet search brought up hundreds of cases just like ours where internal problems break Samsung TVs but it's not anything the average person can repair safely. Yet, Samsung refuses to recall their defective products. Seriously, don't even touch any Samsung TVs!

 "Very nice monitor!" 2010-02-16
By Brent
I purchased this T260HD mainly to be used as a computer monitor. The fact that it includes a TV tuner, adds to its value in my opinion. Its also a very attractive looking monitor. If your just looking to buy a TV, you might as well just buy a dedicated TV though.

So far I like this monitor very much. I am upgrading from a 22" 226bw Samsung which I was happy with, but wanted something a little bigger. I haven't even needed to adjust the color, it looks accurate to me out of the box, the only thing I have adjusted was the brightness, which I lowered to 35 (it comes shipped at 100 brightness). The vertical viewing angle isn't all that great, but this monitor is best viewed with your head near the same level as the monitor, just like every other TN panel is.

One huge positive that doesn't get mentioned much, is the fact that you can also use the remote to adjust all the monitor settings. It makes it a thousand times easier to adjust the monitor settings when you can use the remote, than it is using monitor buttons found on all monitors. Samsung also put thought into the settings, as you can even turn off the power light, or adjust how bright you want the power light. You can also adjust the melody volume that is played when the monitor turns on/off, or turn it off entirely. Turning the monitor on/off just takes placing a finger in front of the sensor (I just use the back of my hand, and it works great).

The TV plays great, especially when in 720 or 1080 HD mode (I'm currently just getting over the air television on it, using an external antenna). I do have a tuner built into my computer also, but what is nice about having a tuner in the monitor itself, is that the computer doesn't have to be turned on to watch it.

I am very happy with this monitor. I use it for pretty much everything, including games (I am using an ATI 5850 card with it).

EDIT: One thing I wasn't happy about when I received it was how cheap and skinny looking the DVI cable was that comes with it, although it seems to work just fine.

 "It's okay" 2010-02-13
By M (CA, USA)
I've read some of the reviews about washed out color. That's odd because the color controls are easy to get to and very granular. You can pump up the colors if you'd like, but I was more conservative with them. If you want to you can make the colors really look bad. I turned off the "cool1" picture mode and manually adjusted the colors to my liking and the color is fine.

The biggest let down on this monitor is the viewing angle is too shallow. If you are off vertical axis from center the top of the display dims quite noticeably. My TV is up higher than my head, and with no tilt correction capability, I have to stand up to get rid of the dimming effect. If the monitor was at head level or lower then I wouldn't have this problem.

Off axis horizontally is not nearly as bad, and all LCDs have some drop of color fidelity (except the newest ones with whatever Apple is using on their new iMacs) off axis. The viewing angle could be better though so I knocked off a star for that.

Also lacking is a VESA mount included. I read other sites that say you can buy an adapter for $25 but the question is, which one? This ambiguity and the extra cost knocks off a half star. And the lack of being able to tilt the monitor knocks off another star. (Technology should adapt to us, not us to it. And that's what I find myself doing.)

I did read one review where the guy said the picture was horrible on his computer with a 9800 video card. Through the DVI in port on the back the native resolution of 1900X1200 is very clear and sharp. In fact I'm sitting about 6-7 feet away writing this review on this monitor. What I figure is this guy had has video card in non-native resolution. If this is the case, all LCDs look bad out of their native resolution.

In short there's nothing wrong with this monitor except user error. If I had it at the proper viewing height, I would be happier with it. 3 Stars -- it would get 5 with: wider vertical and horizontal viewing angles, included VESA mount, and the ability to tilt the monitor.

"Samsung T260HD: Excellent Monitor, Excellent TV" 2010-02-04
By R. Brocke (Bay City, MI USA)
My primary need was a computer monitor, but I also wanted a screen that I could input an HDMI cable from my PS3 for hi-def gaming while sitting at my computer desk. I found that I had to go with a TV (rather than a computer monitor) to get both types of inputs.

Initially, I tried a 26" Insignia 720p TV, which I bought from Best Buy. Although it was a very good TV, I was not satisfied with the resolution when used to view digital family pictures on my computer. The pictures looked too "pixelly." The effect of stair steps on diagonal lines was evident. So I returned the Insignia to Best Buy and got a full refund -- thanks Best Buy! I wanted to return the favor to them by purchasing a 26" 1080p TV from them, but all they had were 720p units in the 26" size. I did some searching and found that there are not many 1080p TVs available in the 26" class, but the Samsung T260HD had it. So I bought one via [...] through Amazon. Shipping was fast. Immediately, after hooking it up, I could see the positive effect of the higher 1080p resolution when I brought up some digital pictures on my PC! And when I switch to the HDMI input (there are 2), to play games with my PS3, it looks great. And, it has a TV tuner built in. I put a splitter on my rooftop antenna cable and I can now watch Hi-Def over-the-air TV at my computer desk too! This TV has a stereo mini plug for headphones which is a nice feature. Also it can be used to feed external speakers if you want. The speakers in this TV are small, and are fine for casual TV watching. If you need better sound you can plug in some external powered speakers. I am very pleased with this TV. It does everything I need it to WITHOUT COMPROMISE.

This is a great Monitor/TV, and I gave it 5 of 5 stars. Nice job Samsung!

This is my first HDTV, but I've been watching HD at friends places for a few years now. This TV has everything I was looking for - a great picture, multiple HDMI inputs (for cable box, gaming console and stereo), swivel stand and top brand. For $750 I consider it a bargin. If your looking for great sound in your room, it's worth investing in a sound bar or true surround stereo system, but out-of-the-box in our small living room the sound is sufficient. I highly recommend this TV.

 ""White glove" delivery ?" 2010-02-01
By James Woodlock
The TV is everything it's supposed to be. I upgraded from a projection SD TV so this one is fabulous. The delivery wasn't so fabulous. The so called "white glove" service was more like "brown glove". It was two days late from the scheduled delivery, nobody ever called. I managed to figure out who the delivery service was but couldn't get a human to ask about delivery. After much pounding of my telephone's keypad it finally defaulted to a person who gave me a day but not a time period. Amazon was zero help with delivery.

The delivery company's statement of service said there would be two drivers and they would do a complete set-up. The, one, driver barely managed to get it into my house and out of the box then had no idea how to do anything other than plug in the power. I'm a techie so it didn't matter and delivery was free. I guess you get what you pay for.

PS: The "red touch of color" is a marketing gimmick as it can't be seen under any lighting conditions except a direct spot light. It didn't have anything to do with my decision to buy this model.

I definitely recommend the TV to anyone looking for a nice, relatively large flat screen for a reasonable price.

However, if the shipper is Pilot Air or through Amazon.com specifically, I DO NOT recommend ordering it. Granted, I ordered the TV in the winter time and live in the Midwest. I was expecting it to be delayed, as the many blizzards that rip through this area during this time of the year. What I was not expecting was making all the calls I did just to track my TV down!! Let alone, I find out it had been deferred several times to other locations all over and around the city I live in. My town is not that small (around 100,000 people) and shipping shouldn't have been as frustrating as it was. And after all my aggravations, I did receive my television, perfectly in-tact... just 3 weeks later than I anticipated.

If you must pay a bit more and have UPS ship it, I would highly recommend doing that. The money you save is not worth the hassle that this shipper caused me.

 "Great TV" 2010-01-31

Looks great, If you are worried, the red border is not garish or really noticeable on the frame. My son set it up by himself and adjusted the widescreen to automatic and we were up and running. We have really enjoyed the TV. The small criticism I have is that the width of the infrared receptor is small, in other words, if you leave things near the receptor, it is harder to switch channels.
